Rickford Kirton is running for Town Council as a Write-In candidate. This website provides the information you need to understand what a Write-In campaign is, why Rickford is running, and how you can support him.
While no single person can change everything alone, strong ideas, persistence, and community support can move Bloomfield forward.
As one of nine members of the Town Council, Rickford Kirton believes real progress happens when leaders listen, collaborate, and act on practical solutions that make life better for every resident.
If elected, Rickford will be a consistent voice for fiscal responsibility, smart growth, and accountability — working side by side with residents and fellow council members to build a stronger Bloomfield.
Bloomfield’s economy starts with its local entrepreneurs. Rickford will advocate for real incentives to help small businesses fill empty storefronts, including the Wintonbury Mall, and make it easier to open and grow a business here.
“A thriving small business community means more jobs, a stronger tax base, and a more vibrant Bloomfield.”
Rickford is committed to ensuring that every tax dollar is spent wisely and responsibly.
He supports:
Zero-based budgeting to cut waste.
Shared services with neighboring towns to lower costs.
Redevelopment revenue directed toward easing the burden on families and seniors.
“We can’t ask residents to keep paying more while town finances remain unclear.”
Rickford believes Bloomfield’s neighborhoods are the heart of the community. He will:
Support mixed-use development to bring new life to local corridors.
Back programs that help renters become homeowners.
Encourage planning that builds stronger, more stable neighborhoods.
To secure Bloomfield’s future, Rickford will work to expand partnerships with local employers in healthcare, technology, and manufacturing to create job training and career pathways.
He also supports youth opportunities in sports, arts, and after-school programs — helping the next generation grow, learn, and thrive.
Rickford believes transparency is the foundation of good government.
He is committed to:
Clear, easy-to-understand financial reporting
Regular community forums so residents can share ideas and hold leaders accountable
Recent developments highlight why this matters. Under the current administration, Bloomfield failed to complete its FY2024 audit on time, despite multiple deadlines and warnings from national credit rating agencies. As a result, Moody’s has downgraded Bloomfield’s credit rating, signaling serious concerns about the town’s fiscal management.
This downgrade doesn’t just hurt Bloomfield’s reputation — it affects investor confidence, increases borrowing costs, and ultimately leaves taxpayers footing the bill.
Rickford isn’t running to assign blame — he’s running to fix the problem and restore trust, transparency, and accountability in how Bloomfield manages public finances.
⚠️ Bloomfield’s Credit Rating Downgraded
The FY2024 audit is still unfinished — and Moody’s has officially downgraded Bloomfield’s rating. Investors see this as a red flag, and residents could face higher borrowing costs.
✅ It’s time for financial transparency.
✅ It’s time for accountability.
✅ It’s time for leadership that tells the truth.
Rickford Kirton is calling for a new era of fiscal responsibility and open government.
Bloomfield’s FY2024 audit still isn’t complete — and Moody’s has downgraded our town’s credit rating.
This signals serious fiscal mismanagement and damages investor confidence, which could drive up borrowing costs for future town projects.
Our town deserves leadership that’s transparent, responsible, and proactive — not reactive after the damage is done.
“When a town misses its audit deadlines and loses its credit rating, something is seriously wrong. Bloomfield residents deserve honesty, fiscal responsibility, and leadership that puts people first — not politics.”
— Rickford Kirton
I am humbled and excited to be running as a Write-In candidate for the Bloomfield Town Council. I am not running for myself, but for all of us who believe our town deserves accountability, fiscal responsibility, and leaders who truly listen.
I also know that casting a write in vote can feel confusing if you have never done it before. That is why, in the coming weeks, I will be sharing simple videos, hosting conversations, and meeting with neighbors to show exactly how easy it is.
What matters most to me is bringing our community together. Every neighborhood, every background, every voice deserves to be heard. When we work side by side, we can rise above division and build a Bloomfield that is fair, transparent, and full of opportunity for everyone.
Whether you are Democrat, Republican, or Unaffiliated, please know this: I will fight for you. I owe no allegiance to any party or special interest. My only allegiance is to the people of Bloomfield.
On Election Day, you will have 𝐬𝐢𝐱 𝐯𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐓𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐥. 𝐀𝐥𝐥 𝐈 𝐚𝐬𝐤 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐭𝐨 𝐖𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐑𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐊𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐨𝐧. Together, we can make sure Bloomfield’s future is built on unity, accountability, and respect.

Meet Rickford Kirton
Bloomfield has been my family’s home for over 20 years. As a husband and father, I know how important it is to invest in our children’s education and well-being. Like many parents here, I live that commitment every day — and it’s what drives me to fight for families across Bloomfield.
Professionally, I’m an accountant, and had the privilege of serving as Chair of the Town Council’s Finance Committee during my six years on the Council (2017–2023).
In that role, I:
Worked directly with town budgets
Scrutinized the numbers that affect taxpayers
Saw firsthand how responsible financial management can protect residents
I also know what happens when leadership falls short — and Bloomfield deserves better.
For too long, residents have faced:
High taxes
Rising costs
Decisions made without true community input
It’s time for leadership that puts residents first. That’s why I’m running again — as a Write-In candidate for Town Council.
✔ Strengthen fiscal accountability and demand transparency in every decision
✔ Ensure audits are completed on time so taxpayers have the facts they deserve
✔ Invest in education, safety, and infrastructure that directly benefit residents
✔ Give taxpayers a stronger voice by making government more open and accessible
This campaign is about creating a town government that works for the people, not behind closed doors.
Whether you are registered as Democrat, Republican, Independent, or Unaffiliated, you’ll have six votes for Town Council.
